The joy that comes with photographing couples in love is why I decided to focus on weddings …and with weddings comes engagements!
Victoria + Chris are college sweethearts so we could think of no better place for imagery than OSU campus. Ideally it would have been Lewis & Clark College or George Fox University, but V+C were returning from a fun trip to California and were staying in Corvallis for the night. No biggy!
We spent a fun afternoon using the university’s many romantic nooks and tree shaded areas. The People’s Park has had a living stick sculpture for the last several years, but is unfortunately preparing to dismantle and replace it. The sculpture has become a campus favorite, so there are orange note cards all over it for people to leave little love notes or stories for the piece. Victoria + Chris took the opportunity to leave their mark on this OSU icon. We took a break after awhile to get some frozen yogurt on Monroe Ave. Coincidentally we all got the same strawberry lemonade sorbet …YUM!!!
Victoria, Chris, and I met back up in the evening to take advantage of a local firework display after a baseball game. The Corvallis Knights always puts on a display on the Friday closest to the 4th of July and the game always sells out.
We arrived at 9:30pm for the 10pm scheduled display and waited… and waited… and waited.
While we were waiting I brought some 2 minute sparklers to play and experiment with… which was great fun since we were still waiting. We couldn’t actually see what was going on in the stadium, bet heard rumors that they were tied and going into extra innings. We were willing to wait… and wait… and wait. Around 11:30 we were getting cold and impatient, but dammit we had already been there for 2 hours so why not wait a little longer? You know the second we leave early they’re going to set them off! At midnight “Nice-Amanda” left and “Crotchety-Amanda” took over, but at least she spiced things up a bit. The jokes, meme references, and PG-13 four letter words started to join the conversation; which was immediately followed by laughter. The game ended up going for 17 INNINGS and the display didn’t go off until around 12:30am!
By the end of it the three of us felt like we’d survived some horrible battle together. We had bonded.
I’m so excited to photograph Victoria + Chris’s winter wedding this January at the Albany Wheelhouse!
