Seattle is the home of my Dreamer Heart… my Emerald City. I will take nearly any opportunity to make the 4 hour drive North, including to meet with one of my wedding couples and shoot an engagement session downtown. I had learned early on that while they live in Seattle they are getting married in Eastern Oregon on Collin’s family’s ranch. After lots of emails and a skype date (I’m still working on getting good at the whole skype thing – wow I feel old) we decided that showcasing the contrast of their life in the city vs. the open range was important to their visual love story. …plus it would give us a chance to meet in person, work together, and I’d get a day in Seattle. Winning!
We started their session at one of Emily’s favorite neighborhood parks in Queen Anne. As we approached I never would have guessed that there was more park beyond the sidewalk, but the best part about this hidden gem is that it’s a switchback filled, terraced, romantic wonderland with a view of the city at the top! It was the perfect location to get us warmed up and get that classic city skyline (without having to drive all the way over to West Seattle). We made our way downtown and visited the mandatory “SEATTLE” sites – Pike Place, Post Alley, Waterfront, and The Arctic Club. Everything was bustling on this perfectly sunny afternoon with tourists, market vendors, locals, and other photography sessions in all directions all around us. My goal for these locations was to get something different than the typical portraits that are surely taken there everyday.
Enjoy!
